Staff Spotlight: Alison Freisz-Steward

Every month we like to introduce one of our staff members so you can get to know them better. This month we spoke to Alison, a Senior Account Manager in Commercial Lines – she told us about her hobby of caring for and showing miniature horses, her fierce pride towards her kids, and a frightful volunteer gig at a haunted house she and her husband pursue every year!

You won the lottery! What’s your first purchase?

I’d like to say I’d be super responsible and invest wisely, and I would, after I bought some frivolous stuff I definitely don’t need – an over the top Disney Cruise for the family, a couple of fancy horses, and a screen printing machine. I’d probably pay the season’s fees for all the athletes at my daughter’s All Star gym as well, so parents could just enjoy their athletes without stressing about finances and fundraising for at least one season.

Share one thing you love to do that you always strive to include in your daily routine.

Coffee. Really it’s sleep, but since I can’t add hours to the day, sleeping seems wasteful so coffee for sure. It literally gives me life every morning.

What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities?

Most of my fave hobbies and activities are followed by the word “mom” (i.e. [former] Band Mom, Cheer Mom, Horse Show Mom) but aside from that, I love breeding, raising, and showing our Miniature Horses and Ponies, as well as designing & making custom clothing and drinkware and running my little online boutique. I spend a lot of time volunteering with the pony club I am part of and my kiddos’ cheer gym booster group. Travel is also high on that list when my husband and I can manage to coordinate scheduled time off together. Taking off and traveling for a long weekend or weeks at a time (either one!) is probably one of our most looked-forward-to activities these days.

Tell us about one of your most memorable experiences.

This is always a difficult question because the vast majority of my memorable experiences revolve around my kids and family – they’re not so much about “me” as me being so proud of them. I’ve done things of course, but that’s not generally the first thing that pops into my head when presented with this question. My kiddos are both pretty active and pretty successful in whatever it is they choose to pursue; from karate and competitive Marching Band with my son (who is 19 now) to show horses and competitive cheer with my (9 yr. old) daughter, we’ve been blessed with so many different stories, adventures, and experiences to pull from the memory bank.

What is your favorite Biggs story?

I’ve only been with Biggs for a year (woot!! Yay me!! 😊) and being fully remote, I don’t really have a story arsenal yet. Fun fact though: I’ve never met a single coworker in person yet, and it looks like my first opportunity to do so will be coming up in a couple of weeks when Miss Heidi and I will be overlapping vacay time in Vegas by about 24 hours, so we have a tentative plan to meet for a drink or two. Kind of insane that my first in-person coworker meeting will actually be in another state on unrelated vacations! Crazy times we live in!

Is your favorite season spring, summer, winter, or fall – and why?

They all have their perks, but if I have to choose just one, it’s got to be fall. Not even for boots and sweaters (although I do love them!), but because Halloween – that’s that season of Haunted Houses. One of hubby & my favorite things is volunteering to work at a local Haunted House though the month of October every year. It’s a non-profit that helps local youth organizations fundraise so all the monies earned go back to the various groups that participate (cheer gyms, sports groups, school groups, etc.). It’s loads of fun and helps so many kids meet fundraising goals, and it’s something we truly look forward to all year long. This year’s theme is Circus (think sideshow; freakshow; contortion; wicked clowns) so if you’re in the Yakima area between October 15 – 31 this year, I urge you to check out Madd Hatter’s Haunt! #WeScareBecauseWeCare

What was your first job?

Sears… shout out to the retail workers! Ya’ll are the real MVPs 😊 I still don’t let anyone fold my t-shirts or jeans because they don’t do it right, and don’t even come at me with your paper money not faced properly and sorted in sequential order by denomination from smallest to largest lol

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To sleep standing up like a horse. I think it would really save a lot of time and be much more efficient.
