Staff Spotlight: Greg Anderson
Every month we like to introduce one of our staff members so you can get to know them better. This month, our CFO and team member of 44 years Greg told us about the wonderful mentorship he’s grateful to have shared with our founder, Don Biggs.
You won the lottery! What’s your first purchase?
If I won the lottery I would probably buy a home in Sedona. We love to golf and hike in that beautiful part of the country.
Share one thing you love to do that you always strive to include in your daily routine.
My daily routine usually involves a really good cup of coffee with the morning news. It is just a great way for me to start my day.
What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities?
My favorite hobby is golf, even though I don’t play as much as I would like. I also enjoy spending time at our beach house, playing on the ocean.
Tell us about one of your most memorable experiences.
My most memorable moment has to be the day my first child was born. I always wanted to be a dad, and my dream came true on October 3, 1979. Her name is Haley, and she has grown to be a beautiful young lady.
What is your favorite Biggs story?
Our first Biggs beach trip, with the guys at Biggs. For me that was in March of 1976, and after Don Biggs made us all his famous Gin Fizzes, he proceeded to give us each a $50 bill for spending money! I thought I must be dreaming this; what a great way to start a new career.
What was your first job?
First real job was working for my parents’ clothing store, called Sherm Smiths clothing. I started in the warehouse unpacking boxes of clothing, attaching pricing labels and stacking the shelves. I graduated into a salesman on the floor when I was 14, fitting clothing and shoes for boys and men… great training for insurance, don’t you think?
What’s one challenge you’ve faced in life that you’re proud to have overcome?
My biggest challenge in life was losing my dad when I was 18, away at college for only 3 months. Was the hardest years of my young life, but fortunate for me, his best friend was Don Biggs — and Don became not only my employer, but the greatest mentor of my life.
