Every month we like to introduce one of our staff members so you can get to know them better. This month, our Life&Health Client Experience Manager Paula tells us about precious moments spent with her and her husband’s bushel of grandchildren!

You won the lottery! What’s your first purchase?

I love travel, so I would either plan a trip or purchase a vacation home in the sunshine. HGTV My Lottery Dream home, here we come!

Share one thing you love to do that you always strive to include in your daily routine.

I enjoy walking, I think exercise is super important for your health and well being. We live in a beautiful place and there is nothing better than a nice hike on a trail or even walking in the neighborhood. I wear a Fitbit and try to get in 10,000 steps per day; bring on the step challenge!

What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities?

I enjoy golf, especially when the sun is shining – I can’t wait until the weather is better and my husband and I can play 9 holes of golf after work. I usually walk the course to get more exercise. I also love spending time with my grandchildren. I have six that range in age from 2 to 11, and my husband has four ages 6 to 12 so it is fun to spend time with them. They love to have a sleepover with a movie and popcorn, then visit IHOP the next morning. (Have you seen how huge the Funny Face pancake at IHOP is?!)

We have a few special weekends away with grandkids planned and we did a family cruise to Mexico over the holidays with all 10 kids and 16 adults. Too fun!

Tell us about one of your most memorable experiences.

My husband and I went to Spain and Portugal last year. We rented a car and visited the southern part of both countries, where we saw amazing sites including the Alhambra, the National Palace, the Real Alcazar as well as beautiful beaches and towns. The tapas and wine were great; there is nothing quite like sitting outside enjoying wonderful food and a glass of wine. We had a tour in a horse-drawn carriage in Sevilla that was amazing. I can’t wait for our next trip, this time to Italy.

What is your favorite Biggs story?

Biggs is a such a great place to work, I love the team here. Lots of positive energy and encouragement. We work hard but we also have a lot of fun. We recently painted wine glasses as a department event – it was super fun and the wine glasses look pretty good for amateurs! We have a wonderful activities committee that goes all out. There is no holiday that goes uncelebrated at Biggs.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what’s the one thing you couldn’t live without?

I am newly married to a wonderful man. My husband would need to come to the desert island with coffee. I am not sure I could do without either one.

Is your favorite season spring, summer, winter, or fall – and why?

I love the summer when I can golf and hike. Sunshine makes me smile!

What does success look like to you?

When you help others to succeed, that is true success. Knowing your clients and looking strategically forward to anticipate what they will need for their success is both challenging and rewarding.

What was your first job?

My first job was as a hostess in a restaurant. My parents went on vacation and left me at home with my teenage brothers and not enough money… yikes, what were they thinking?! I was worried I would run out of gas so I found a job. I was only in high school, but was able to manage the front so well that the manager would leave me in charge when he couldn’t be there. I wasn’t old enough to drink but I could buy everyone else free drinks or food. Great experience in how important it is to offer great service with a smile!

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I would love to be able to fly so I could see more of the world.

What’s one challenge you’ve faced in life that you’re proud to have overcome?

I think raising children is a wonderful and rewarding challenge. It has been so nice to see my son and daughter grow into such fantastic adults, now with their own children. They are both amazing parents and terrific people, so I am super proud of them both.
