Staff Spotlight: Sarah Ray
Every month we like to introduce one of our staff members so you can get to know them better. This month, our Personal Lines Lead Account Manager Sarah tells us about her awesome morning TED Talk ritual.
You won the lottery! What’s your first purchase?
First, I would make a large donation to the shelters and services in our county that help the homeless families, veterans, and mentally ill individuals living on the streets in Vancouver; especially during these cold winter months when they need care and warmth the most. The first thing I would actually purchase would be a Catamaran Yacht and travel with my family on a trip of a lifetime around the warm waters of the Caribbean. All of us experiencing that together without video games and cell phones would be amazing!
Share one thing you love to do that you always strive to include in your daily routine.
Every morning while I get ready for work I listen to a TED Talk. Whatever the subject of the talk, I open my mind to new information and gain a better understanding of others’ social perspectives and technological advances in our world. I try not to find my own topics, but instead listen to whatever the newly downloaded subject of the day happens to be. Today was a talk by Li Wei Tan regarding the Fascinating Science of Bubbles, from Soap to Champagne. It was really…fascinating!
What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities?
With 5 kids, my hobbies usually include something with them. We love to ride bikes and take our Silver Labrador puppy on walks at Lewisville Park in Battle Ground. When I get some time to myself, I really like shopping at HomeGoods and TJMaxx!!
Tell us about one of your most memorable experiences.
The day my husband and I found out we were having twin boys. We already had three girls and thought we were done having kids. It was such a shock to find out we were even pregnant again, but then to find out there were two AND they were boys, was just the most overwhelming feeling. We laughed and cried and felt both deeply blessed and completely scared at the same time! We still look at our family of 7 and shake our heads in disbelief that all those little people call us Mom and Dad!
What is your favorite Biggs story?
HANDS DOWN, the best day was the Halloween Party! All the employees get into the themed decoration and costumes contests. So much fun; especially, when Rich Biggs came down in a cowboy country star costume, complete with out-of-tune guitar and “played” (purposely bad, but with great enthusiasm) for all of us! The Personal Lines team transformed the downstairs into Hogwarts with a Quidditch field, floating candles, long tables filled with fancy food, and we all dressed up as the students. We won the contest and had a lot of laughs! Can’t wait to show everyone what we have planned for next year! GO BIGGS OR GO HOME!
What was your first job?
My first real job was as a receptionist at an Allstate Agency. The office was in a great little craftsman style house in downtown Olympia. We kept the files downstairs in the stone foundation cellar and it always creeped me out going downstairs or working there on the weekends by myself. I was sure it was haunted. The best part was working up from answering phones to getting my insurance licenses at such a young age. It was a great opportunity and I still feel blessed to be in the industry today.
